I received a 1902 Silver dollar from my fathers estate in 1992. I think is called a 'liberty dollar'. Anyone know anything about this coin?:thumb:
welcome to the forum!!:high5: sounds like you have a morgan dollar. take a picture of it and we will give you a price for it. without a picture, all i can say is look on the back for a mintmark. if it does not have a mintmark, or has an O minmark, its worth $16. if there is a small S for a mintmark, it could easily be an $80 coin depending on grade. thats why we really need a scan or a picture to give you a better estimate on grading and value.
Possible Morgan Dollar Thanks, but it's pretty worndown, and there is no mint mark on it. I would not give it up anyway. My Dad said that his dad carried it as his good luck piece. I was the first Silver dollar he earned while workling for the Grand Trunk RR out of Canada after emigrating from Hungary in the early 1900's. I was just hoping someone might know a little about these coins.
They are named after their designer, George Morgan. They were made from 1878-1904, and then again in 1921. On coins with mint marks, you will see a tiny letter above the D and O in the word DOLLAR on the back. If there is no letter it was made in Philidelphia, if there is an S its San Fransisco, an O New Orleans, etc. It is 90% silver.
And, because of the significance of the story it carries, it's priceless. Sometimes the story behind a coin is far more valuable than the coin itself. Guy~
Good Luck Morgan Dollar You are right, coleguy. I'm going to pass it on to my Daughter to give to her son and so on and so on. In that way, My grandfather and my father and I will never really be gone. Thats Priceless. Thanks, everybody. Michael Poyer Raleigh NC
