The coin on the left is from the first series of the second group at Heraclea, distinguished by the lack of an officina letter (RIC VIII Heraclea 64). All such are rare. Although it looks in this pic like the barbarian is sporting a Daniel Boone style cap, it is on close inspection a generous crop of hair in the style of Beethoven.


The Coin in the middle is from the second group first series of Thessalonika, first officina (RIC VIII Thessalonika 118). The barbarian sports what resembles a cossak hat, though it is not unlike the tresses of Heraclea but smoother. Here the spear of the soldier points between the two figures, not the legs of the soldier.

The coin on the right is from the third group at Nicomedia, second officina of three assigned to it (RIC VIII Nicomedia 70). Here the hair of the barbarian is more closely cropped with segmenting that makes it look like an aviator cap.

That's an awesome looking barbarian RG. I've never really look at the little guy as much, I'm ususally checking out the soldier, hut , and tree variation...why is that?

My little dude seems to have "spiky" pants?
