Since I will never be a big coin dealer and only take 30-50 photos of coins a year, I do not see the point of buying a camera that can run me several hundred dollars. Did I mention I'm as cheap as McDonald's too? After propping up my coins using a cent and Dansco album, I discovered I could photograph the coins with little blurriness. After a days work, here are some of my favorites.

Not bad. I'm cheap on camera setups for the same reason. I've become decent with my iPhone being held steady with a roll of toilet paper. These don't hold muster to the pros, but there good enough for my purposes. I'd always used the black background, but lately I've come to like the white a bit more image001.jpg IMG_2036.JPG IMG_2457.JPG 37 o1-horz.jpg

Under the living room fan Duke. The toilet paper roll works well because it's the proper distance for the camera to autofocus. Someone here gave me that tip and I've used it ever since.

As a tablet camera user, I'll say... very nice tablet-pics. I'd be happy with those for sure.
As for backgrounds, I like the white. When posting here, there doesn't appear to be a background. It's like the coins are floating there. (with a little imagination)
    All nice pics.
    Good tip (toilet paper roll)

Hey y'all, I don't have either an iPhone or tablet, just a 12 year-old Kodak Easy Share Z700, but I'm trying to figure out just how this TP roll maneuver works. How are you getting the light to your coin, and just where is the roll in relation to the camera lens?
