Got my 1909-S VDB Cent in the mail today. Not the greatest pictures and I know it's had to tell for sure if it's fake or real but what do people think just by the pictures. Real or fake? I do plan on sending it to ANACS.

looks perfectly normal to me!!! from what I can see in the pics that is... but I'd say it looks to be genuine.

It is really hard to determine anything thru the plastic.
I assume that you don't want to remove it from the seller's holder, so that you can return it in the event that it is bogus.
So, bottom line, send it in.

    Thanks Mike and Frank-
Correct about not wanting to take it out of the 2 by 2. Sure the coin looks a little better out of the 2 by 2. Added a couple better pictures I think.

Thanks Ed. I bought it raw so that is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Should go at least Very good to fine. Looks cleaned. Sending it off the ANACS today to make sure it's real and what kind of grade it gets. Wish the obverse was as nice as the reverse!

If its real, I would think it would grade F. The only thing that concerns me is the dark halo around the mint mark.

Is that a depression around the mint mark or just dirt? Like said in the previous post that looks a little concerning.

It's got those spots on a few other areas of the obverse. I think one just happened to be on the mint mark or at least I hope that is the case. Should know for sure it about 3 weeks if it's real or not and what grade it gets. If it grades I think it will go F12 details with cleaning or corrison.

I agree about the 'dirt' aroung the mintmark.
Also, is it my computer or what is that purple gunk on the left?

Thanks for blowing up the pictures. In hand it didn't look like a repunched S mintmark but I am certainly no expert. Just mailed the coin off to ANACS along with a bunch of other coins. Will let you all know the outcome in a few weeks.
Got my fingers crossed. Guess I wouldn't be sweating as much if I would of bought a certified coin in the first place:goofer:

Again - good luck - sometimes it's hard to tell much from a photo. We look forward to hearing the grade!

Or no grade which I think is going to be the case. The more I look at that picture the more it looks like a punched S to me.

I did check some info on counterfeit 1909-S VDB's. Said the VDB on the 1909-S
is different than the 1909. The crossbar in the B is slated on the 1909-S VDB which this one looks like it has. Also on the S mint mark the real 1909-s vdb has a little die chip in the S on the geniune coin. Looks like I see a little bump in the S where it suppose to be. Maybe there is hope!
