I GAMBLED on eBay - and I liked it!

Have you ever had any copper coins turn pink? I've never tried it on copper because I've heard it might turn the coin pink.

Never with acetone

 

I've never either despite hearing the same 'wisdom' repeated at least a dozen or more times over the years. I think it's one of those incorrect things that just caught on and now gets repeated ad nauseam, despite not being true. Now dip on the other hand will turn copper bright pink really quick...

 

This is in my Top10 for best buys on ebay. Seller had it listed with a starting bid of $40. About 12 hours before the end, there were no bids. I spent the next 7 hours reading everything I could find about the No-D, and compared every image I could find. Auction ended at 4:55 am on a Sunday morning. I was going to stay up and wait for it, but ended up putting in a snipe bid with a sniping program. I was 90% convinced it was a No-D, but put in a very modest (<$100) bid. There ended up being one other bidder, and he was very conservative.

Congrats to @Beefer518 for that excellent find. Having been a member here for less than a week, I'm amazed at how much I've learned. Until today I hadn't paid any attention to this coin. I do see that it's in bold in the Red Book, and, of course, I made it a point to check mine out... no such luck.

 

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong post. That Draped Bust Half Dollar sold for a record $6250. No other 1806 in AU53 had ever sold for anything close to that. That was a big win, for sure.

Maybe I should have said, "excellent findS." Still, I hold some fascination for the Lincoln Wheats, and I'm beginning to explore the Indian Heads now that I'm well into my seventies.

The reverse of the slab was pretty scratched up, the new owner has already set it free for his Lincoln book.

 

Threw a $25 offer and got accepted.
