This is right up my alley (mom-baby themes)...somehow in the last decade+ I totally missed the existence of this coin. Google-fu tells me the reverse is a rendition of the 'hei-tiki' which is traditionally made of greenstone and worn as an ornament dating from Maori pre history. One of the leading interpretations is that the figure represents a human embryo and is a fertility symbol...hence my interest . A very lovely gift and many thanks to @MontCollector!
I instantly thought of you when I researched this coin a little. Very happy to add it to your collection. Glad it arrived safely.
Very generous gift from @MontCollector indeed Do you know that one ? Fausta (wife of Constantine the Great), AE3 Trier mint FLAV MAX FAVSTA AVG, draped bust right SPES REIP VBLICAE, Fausta standing, holding Constantinus II and Constantius II in her arms,PTR crescent at exergue 3.0 gr Ref : LRBC # 36, Cohen # 15v Q
Oh no! Now I have to start adding ancients too!! I have a very battered ancient I'll have to find that does show an infant or child, but not nearly as nice as that one (and the date/origin escapes my dim memory at the moment). This does open a whole new aspect though...
I pretty much live in the darkside...just not the really old parts . Unless darkside means something different over here. Oh well, as long as there are cookies.
