Just wondering what a realistic value on this would be. Not my coin, and it's the seller's picture. It sold for $1,000, and I think that's way low. What's your opinion?

If it's not a restrike, and it's a genuine 1804 large cent, that is the price for a G-4 without the counter stamp. To me that damages the coin and should be valued lower. But there are people that like them. The obverse may be a tad lower than G-4 and the reverse a tad higher, so I think the net grade of G-4 is correct. And the price to me is a little high.

I think it depends on how much you like countermarks. Some people really enjoy them, but others people see them akin to plain damage. BTW, is this mark listed in Brunk? It might create more interest with an interesting countermark story.
Honestly, I don't think 1000 for this coin is out of line, but if I were the buyer, I'd try to talk them down a bit.

If the counterstamp is "AE", it is not listed in Brunk's.
