I asked Ricky yesterday if he collected short snorters aswell as normal notes, and that got me to thinking. Do currency collectors often collect them, or are they reserved for WWII collectors?

For those who may not know, short snorters are dollar bills that soldiers in WWII would write their names on. I'm not quite sure how it worked, but I think it was something like this:

Two soldiers would each take a $1 bill and they would each sign each other's note. The two soldiers would depart from wherever they were drinking, and get whoever they met along the battefield, in towns, etc. to sign the bill. When the two soldiers met again, whoever had the least signatures would buy the next round of drinks. I don't know why the name 'short snorter' was selected for this game, but either way, they are very interesting pieces of WWII memorabilia.

Since hobo nickels are collected by numismatists, I see no reason why these notes would not be.
