Looked in the auction images like a typical fugly circulated Seated Quarter with splotchy toning. What it is, is an undergraded slider with booming luster (hinted at in the reverse auction image) and pleasing color for a Seated. Terrific score at grade price.
This is exactly what I mean by a gamble. Sure it's not like I'm betting the farm on a long shot. But when you have seller photos that aren't showing the better look of the coin and you take a chance hoping it turns it better. Well that's a gamble to me. Nothing is REALLY a gamble on eBay anyway with all the buyers protection and such. It's just a nice way to show off coins that most people avoid. And sometimes we end up with real winner like this Hawaiin quarter. And a lot of time the TpG photos don't help either so it's sort of like gambling, well about as much as you can on eBay. This is an AWESOME quarter by the way
I just got these back from NGC today. I bought a large lot of Peace Dollars on Ebay back in August, and paid $18ea. I have numerous 1922 and 1923 that will grade MS62-MS64, but they weren't worth it to grade. These two I just got back. I may go through the stack again to see what else pops up. You just have to spend the time hunting and studying, and don't be afraid to ask questions! A nice Christmas bonus!
I don't know if I like it yet, but I actually took my first gamble on ebay with some horrible photos. With only 48 minutes left in the auction and no bidders, I thought for 49.00 this coin didn't look too bad. However I am not holding my breath. These are the wonderful seller pics. What do you all think? I'll post my own pics when it arrives. The first pic: Well, we know it's a coin, hmmm, BUT what kind? And then the second: It's a Morgan! Then the rest in order. I don't think he could decide if this was an MS 63 PL or 69 PL LMAO!!! For fifty bucks, oh yeah! LOL Although that toning does look interesting. I have no idea why anyone would think these are good camera angles. The last of the reverse is hilarious.
Here was an eBay gamble I spent $26 on. Opinions please. I think I did OK personally everything in the picture for $26. I know these pics aren't the best but you can see some of the toning on the '10 and better than a good '11s in my opinion. The '42 proof was OK but spotty so I didn't try to take a picture of it. Opinions welcome.
For $26? You did fine. There's some reasonable stuff there. Heck, the cents you pictured are worth about that.
Time to bring this thread back! Here is the ebay photo (it gives an idea, but no one was buying the coin): And here is my photo (still not the best representation, but it shows the color better...also, it is a fairly strong PL on the obverse...reverse is blast white):
Here is a shot in the dark for $6 Listed as a 1902-O Barber Half Will update when the lot of coins come in from the seller.
I paid $73 for this one. Amazing what a little acetone will do. It's a Newcomb 7/8, cool reverse die crack, late die state. Seller's pics: My pics, post acetone:
I recently bought an album with 26 Indian Head Cents in it; I paid $36 for it including shipping. The coins date from 1883 to 1909, and the condition for the most part is acceptable to VG. I have since added 11 coins — some are still in transit so they're not in this picture — but I have tried to keep prices, including shipping to $10 or less per coin. Obviously, I've been outbid many times in my quest to fill the slots. I did find two eBay dealers that had nice BIN Indian Heads at reasonable prices, but I do not know if the forum frowns on providing info of this sort. I am thinking about bidding on another set that ends tonite. If I win it I'll be back.
