Good evening, I have a pair of 1978 Canadian Halves in 2 x 2's. One says Round Bead and the other says Square Bead. Using reference book; 2013 North American Coins & Prices...22nd edition....KM#75.3 lists for 1978 Note: square jewels and round jewels.

Now the question is what jewels OR what beads? And where are the beads and jewels located? Anyone? 1978 Canadian Halves 001.JPG

I think they are refering to what we in the US call denticles. They are located just inside the Rim.I have seen them refered to as Beads on British coins. I have not ever heard of them refered to as Jewels.

    Denticles

The small, toothlike indentations around a coin's circumference that border the coin's fields.
