Found an interesting bottle of wine on sale today and thought I'd give it a try. Didn't read the reverse label til I got home :) Hope the wines better than the attribution.

    LOL!

I wonder how many ancient coin collectors have written them about their mistake. You should drop them a note just in case no one has pointed out their gaffe.

Now be sure to water down that wine before drinking it. Gotta keep it legit ancient Rome, yo :D

I wonder if you can get in trouble for naming your wine after a kid. Of course Maximus Caesar is one of those people whose exact birth date is not certain so it will be hard to prosecute. I do wonder where they got the artwork for their bottle. My best coin of the intended wine lover Magnus Maximus is not bottle quality.

Magnus Maximus and Maximus = two different emperors.

@TIF had a project some time ago, looking for wines, coin related.

This winery is making a big deal out of the reason for the name of their wine but the emperor they reference on the back of the label (Magnus Maximus) is not emperor on the coin! Oopsie. Off by a century and a half.

Magnus Maximus (reigned CE 383-388), coin from CNG's archives:

The coin on the label is of Maximus, son of Maximinus Thrax. Maximus was a historically insignificant figure who was Caesar for a year or two until he and his father were murdered by the Praetorian Guard.

    Haha over and over!

I like lagunitas Maximus IPA but they make no attempt to tie it to a Roman ruler. Probably got the idea from the film gladiator.

Hmm I didn't know Commodus was beardless.

Last year I recall a red wine called Mercury it had a real mercury dime on its label.

 I didn't catch that. Hilarious! I guess most wine buyers aren't really going to care. Maybe the whole story is just some marketing gimmick anyway.

They has a whole series of wine with coins on the label. The wine itself isn't bad, trying it now. A nice red blend.

:D I think I will send them a note lol. It's not cheap wine, like $50ish (though I got it on sale for $20) so you think they'd try and get it right :)

I bet it would go well with roasted door mouse and anchovy paste. Oh, don't forget the olives.

Praise the Lord for the Arabs, for they gave us 'distilled spirits', though they are not allowed to imbibe. Poor fellows......

To be authentic it needs to have bones and scales. Sounds yummy.
