Coin #1 Back.jpg Coin #1 Front.jpg Hello I have a coin I found a long time ago don't know much about it looking for someone's input on it if all possible. It has a date of 1851 on it and a star on one side and a C on it with III in the center of the C .
Can someone please help and let me know what it is and if it has any value. I gave it to my Sun he is 12 and he loves it. He also has a lot of paper * NOTES as well with odd cereal # and some without the * . And some that has not been in circulation before. And a lot of old coins to. I told him I would find something out for him. Thank You All for your Time in advance.

    That's a 3 cent silver US coin.
Value difficult to determine because the condition is poor.
    Maybe $10.
It's the smallest coin the US ever made.

I thought the smallest US coin was the $1 gold.

    Trime weight 0.8 grams.
    $1 gold 1.672 grams.

The 3 cent nickel is heavier at 1.94 grams. But the 3 cent silver is tiny and thin and light. Less than a gram.

Despite the condition that is a wonderful find loaded with history

Indeed. It's got, what we call, 'character'. And it ain't entombed and looks original (to these old eyes). :)

So it's the lightest coin ever minted.
