1970 S Nickel!!!

Discussion in 'Coin Roll Hunting' started by Derrick Jarvis, Aug 20, 2017.

  1. I found a 1970 S Nickel today, I wanted to know if this coin would be worth anything. I thought thought this coin was not made for circulation only proof sets only. What do you think?

Sorry, but over 200 Million 1970-S nickels were minted for circulation. 1968-S and 1969-S nickels were also minted for circulation

The value on Jefferson nickels in both MS and proof strikes depends on mintage and condition. Very few circulated Jeffersons hold any value other than filling a hole in an album or the appreciation of the find.
Enjoy finding a specimen in the wild.

  5. I bought a 1970 small and large date from a guy for $45 he needed money and he told me that it was a steal.

  11. Explain yourself!

  12. According to NCG and PCGS the small set could sell up $3000 and as little as $300 so I am not sure why I was had I bought two proof sets Large and small dates.

This thread is about NICKELS. 1970 S Nickels. There are no small/large date varieties of 1970 S Nickels. If you bought the sets thinking there were, then you've been had.

Sorry to say this but the steal he mentioned was him referring to someone not being smart enough to know he was lying if he was talking about nickels.

  16. Let me clarify and was specifically talking about me getting both proof sets for the amount of $45 dollars and by me finding the 1970 S nickel I assumed the nickel was worth something since the 1970 S proof set has a mintage roughly of 2.6 million coins made, and once again I assumed there was a small and large date for this coin. Once again the person I bought the 1970 S proof sets, one being a small date, said getting both set for that amount was a steal.

  17. Like I said in other post and I think this one also, I am fairly new to coin collecting barely a month or little over a month.

  18. The cent in the set may have been small date....

  19. I am not sure I will go research it out before I post anything I'm not sure about, I am thankful and appreciative of any and all advice.

  20. 75-85$ small date set.....10-12$ large date set
