your coin is from Peru, 1/2 Sol is the denomination, 1907 year, metal-.900 silver, weight- 12.50g. or 0.3617 oz. mint mark LIMA, mintage-1,000,000
    grade/value
    VF20-$13.00 XF40-$15.00 MS60-$20.00 MS63-$35.00

I would say your coin is around VF grade, but I am not sure how much grade is taken off for that hit below the date ?
do not clean this coin. leave it as is.
    awesome find.
it is not cost effective to get this coin graded. the cost of the grading would be more than the coin is worth.

    Great find!
I would love to run into one of these.
While I would also keep this one, I agree with the previous posts and would NOT submit for grading.

Being as you're admittedly new, please understand that having coins "graded" is akin to playing a game. Play wisely and you can win, but do so foolishly, and you can permanently bury yourself.

While a coin is what it is inside or outside of plastic, in order for a coin to be worth submitting, the plastic must add something of value to it. This can be increased liquidity, to independently verified authenticity, and everything in between, but also means that a great majority of perfectly collectible coins out there, including many presently residing in plastic, have no business being there.

The TPGs do not exist for the collector's benefit, but are for-profit businesses perfectly happy to remove money from your pocket without offering anything in return, and is why knowledge is key. Just as an athlete must exercise and practice in order to preform at their peak, the same can be said of collectors even if the "exercise" is mental as opposed to physical. The simple fact you're here and asking questions suggests you're heading down the wise path. Welcome to the forum.

I noticed that you asked about grading in another thread as well. I good piece of advice is to never get a coin graded. Of course, that makes no sense because lots of people grade coins. So what do I mean?

I have thousands of coins, several worth hundreds of dollars. I have never submitted a coin for grading. Why? Because I have no intention of selling them. I enjoy them as they are without spending extra money. I have some, fewer than 100, which I suspect are worth grading if I ever decide to try to sell them and I have made a note of these. I learned which ones are worth doing so by observing auctions and threads online and by reading books on grading. It took quite some time to be even moderately comfortable with selecting them and even to this day I am not totally confident.

Have some patience. Learn about coins and enjoy them. Then one day if you decide to try to sell some of them you will have learned enough to have a good idea yourself which ones are worth it. One day I expect that I will reach that point but now I think I am only part of the way along the journey.

  12. I am asking certain question according to the conversion topic, and I am new to coin talk so it's not that I am under mining anyone it's just as I am talking or asking certain questions other questions popup in mind so I ask. Like found quite a few 90% and 40% halves and the grading question came up only for those specific coins that's all so if I am ask one thing under one topic and ask again in another one don't mean I didn't take the advice previously. I just want to know what I have and what I should do, like I said before I am fairly new to coin collecting and very new to this site. I am earnestly seeking the proper help so i want get screwed by dishonest people. That all my friend but thanks for the advice!

it is good to ask question about coins. never be afraid to do so. even seasoned pros ask questions. the thing about coin learning is that there is always more to learn. this comes with time and experience and looking at many many coins and learning how to grade coins. getting coins graded if they are high dollar coins is a good idea and you find out if they are authentic. it is no problem not getting them third party graded too, but I caution you to only buy from reputable dealers if the coins are raw.

  14. Thank you, and I really appreciate your advice.

I love finding treasures like these. Such a fine break from the ordinary, and really spark the curiosity which will lead you to learning more and more.

It reminds me of a few years ago that I found a Newfoundland Half Dollar. I'd never seen anything like it, and (at the time) didn't know about the different coinages from the various colonies/dominions that make up modern Canada. Finding that one coin prompted me to spend a few hours learning about the history of the different provinces that became Canada and how each had its own money.

Just like you will (or probably already have) learn the history of Peru and its coinage. All from finding that one treasure.

  16. You are very correct, once I found out what I was looking at I went and searched out the history and it was interesting!

This is a great coin. Almost a $20 coin except for that hit on the date that was mentioned. And at least +$6 in silver. But no it's not worth getting graded.
Put it in a flip. It's an excellent find.

  18. Awesome, I appreciate the advice I have flipped it and stored it away in a safe!
