Any chance you can open it at the post office or something in case the jerk sends an empty package or something else? It would be awesome if he did that and you had your postmaster there to witness it...
That's true but that just isn't worth jumping through their hoops for imo especially since I believe they lowered it. The store discount is the important one at this point. Also agreed 14 days is more than enough
Yes, but eBay said they step out of it if an empty box is sent, and I have to report it as an internet crime. They won't do anything. They side with the buyer. eBay protects criminals.
Agree with you there! Totally sucks. At least if it does happen you have the option of a criminal complaint...and I would do it if nothing else as eBay may some day be forced to comply when there is criminal activity/fraud.
I also sell on ebay. All buyers are not honest. I sometimes input tracking numbers manually into ebay. Recently, the ebay computer system 'lost' several of the tracking numbers I input which was approx 10. Since there was no proof of delivery, it was difficult for me to challenge someone who said they never received the item I sent. I had 2 different individuals try to claim they never received an item and requested refund. I happened to save the tracking numbers separately but I didn't know which item they belonged to. I eventually was able to prove that the items were delivered and the buyers (now blocked) cancelled their cases. I agree that ebay sides with the buyer. If you are a seller, protect yourself. Scammers abound.
They know if they don't play it that way, eBay will disappear. The only thing keeping them from corporate liability for every little thing that happens on the site is the disconnect of being "only a venue." They've no choice but to push all problems directly onto the sellers/buyers as best they can. The moment that veil is pierced, they will be dogpiled with liability suits, under which they will cease to exist as a company. Or, they have to employ a level of strict control under which they would not be profitable because it would take too many people. And that formula holds for any other company which tries to become a competitor - you either disconnect or you exercise a level of control you cannot afford. How much do you think it would take to employ experts capable of discerning illegal/counterfeit operations in every single niche where they operate? Even if you could find those people which is unlikely because that skill commands better money than they could pay. It's the price the laws force us to pay for such a venue, and it's inevitable that people will get screwed by it. Unfortunately, you're on the short end this time. No other solution.
I am curious as to whom you spoke to. Was it a fraud expert, or just some rep that doesn't/didn't look into your specific transaction, and communications with the buyer??? This is a ridiculous outcome for your situation to me, and everyone else, except the buyer. (and EBAY)
They're no longer just a venue when they actively force returns, especially returns from people already caught in a crime. eBay itself is an amazingly great idea it's just a shame it has always been so mismanaged and run by people without a clue. The idea itself has always been the savior of the company, no one can really understand why it's so hard for them to figure out when you chase all your sellers away the site suffers. It's pretty easy to see why paypal was so desperate to separate themselves
I had the same thing happen to me, but on the EAST Coast, with a pedestal date SLQ... but the coin was not certified and worn quite a bit. I really wanted to call his local police and report it, but I simply didn't have time to deal with a 9 dollar coin issue, so I just refunded the money. This guy still left negative feedback... AND a week later he posted my coin on his seller page... Boy was I miffed... Just had to report him. Couldn't prove the coin was mine to ebay staff. IS the customer always right? Not with THIS former eBay seller.
I think Paypal (if we consider them a separate management team completely; don't know if they were) is seeing that Ebay has - through their stupidity - already thrown themselves over that precipice, as it were. A well-planned legal effort could probably bake them in the oven right now, with the evidence they've already provided.
I got screwed by eBay, but thankfully (perhaps out of fear), the buyer returned the actual coin. I feel like if this guy had known how easy it would be to send an empty package and get away with it, he would have. Guess I should count this as a win.
This is an enormous win. I would have considered it a win if he sent you an empty box but the box was reusable.
here is anther scammer http://www.ebay.com/itm/Retro-1804-...%3Af7438e5515d0a86046a3eb4affff7574%7Ciid%3A1
At least it's done with. That was one of the most insane stances I've ever heard of from eBay even for their absurd buyer can do no wrong standards.
