Will acetone help on this coin?

What are you trying to remove?

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

I don't see anything on that coin indicating a need for acetone.

Acetone won't help. If you don't like the streaks it needs professional conservation (NCS or PCGS - charge/ICG does not). If the "wrong" chemicals are used (coin dip for example) the streaks will return over time and the coin will be too bright.

Save your money. I agree the coin has character.

What does the reverse side look like ? Mintmark ?

It looks the same on the reverse. It is a Philly. It is a no "F" coin. I don't like the look. Price was right but I have an aversion to toned and discolored coins. Probably pass. Wasn't sure if a dip or something could get rid of the streaks. Thanks for the input.

I recently did some experimentation with acetone.
Some things improved. Some did not. It didn't hurt the coins. (24 hours)
In this case you don't want to accidentally reveal an old cleaning, if you are trying to remove that dark material in the streaks.
It might look better now. Your call. Nice coin.

OK; didn't know if you were aware. This being the case - if I'm right, and I think I am - the color difference is actual metal (perhaps with a bit of its' own differing patina) and only a wire brush will remove it. And only then if you dig the whole vein of copper out. That would be....invasive. :)

As a woodie and buffalo collector I love to find a coin like this.

Your question was valid and you've received your answer. But for future use keep this thought in mind - there's actually only a few things that acetone is good at removing. With just about everything else it's basically a waste of time.

PLEASE...... The color can be easily removed with chemicals. The "trick" is to keep the different metals from oxidizing to "brown" again over time.

NEVER scrub your coins with wire brushes.
Leave that :jawdrop::facepalm: to the ancient collectors. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I'm left imagining an actual buffalo with Woody from Toy Story's face on it, and it's weirdin' me out, maaaaan. [I heard speech much like this on the 16th Street mall in Denver, while at the ANA show.]

Yep that's a buffalo woody haha those marks are there to stay. They will not remove. I would buy that coin for a dollar more maybe just cause it's a woody. Aka improper mixture of metals
