As I may have mentioned a few times, my brother runs a coin shop here in Downers Grove, IL. Recently, while the owner was out of town, he asked me if I would mind helping him keep an eye on things at the table during the weekly coin shows. Well, I must have done something right with someone, because my brother just said that he and the shop owner were talking it over, and he wants me to work the table on the weeks that the owner is unavailable. For PAY!!!!! Woooooooooooo Hoooooooo!!!! DO NOT tell my brother this, but I'd do it for free!!!! It's fun, and I love it!!! This means that I may have to see if I can get a few discounted items to give away for contests!!!!!!!!!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Congrats Mike! You're going to have to keep me posted on any shows you might be doing. I'm not that far from Downers Grove. Money's been tight that's why I still haven't made it to the Countryside show that JustCarl attends. When money loosens up I'd love to hit a show where you are working and Carl is attending. Drag a few Northwest Indiana "region rats" along with!
I envy you. Seriously, I do. I'm really BURNT on my current profession but unfortunately I never bothered learning anything else. The only thing I'm really interested in is collecting. K, let me stop the PLM crap! Congrats! :high5:
I have 15 years in at a 190 bed nursing home in various capacities from CNA, TRD, Social Worker, and now back to CNA third shift. BURNT is understated..
OK now Mikenoodle. Not sure but I think we went over this before. You people go to the Itasca coin shows also. If I'm not mistaken, first table in the hall on the way in. True? If so I see you people every third Sunday there. I go to the Countryside, Il. show evey second Sunday. I really don't like the Lemont, Il show on the first Sunday. Do you people work all three? Not sure where the shop in Downers Grove is or I'd visit you folks there, also. Will not buy anything, but will stop by and look anyway. Let me know if that is you at the first table in the Itasca shows. If so, see you next show. And yes, I would demand a discount for being a member here. That is above the normal senior citizens discount, being a pest discount, paying with cash discount.
yes, carl... first table at itasca, that's us... but I am just starting out so, I may not be at every one. I will definately let you know when I will work next.
Congratulations ~ now just don't become jaded & grouchy like most of the old time coin dealers Keep that enthusiasm ~ it definitely helps encourage newbie collectors.
something that has NEVER been lost on me, believe me... the last thing this business needs is ANOTHER crotchety old man!!!
