So a short while back I saw a nice FTR Galley, but it looked a little odd (lower left) along with a odd (to me) looking FTR phoenix (bottom) from a seller in Germany. Not to much later, a die match pops up (lower right), from another seller in Germany. Tonight the top 2 galleys popped up for sale from the previous seller. The parts that look odd to me are the eyes, the front bottom 4 pearls, the O in reparatio as well as some wear and high points. Are these from re-carved dies, or something dubious?
Ive seen these in the wild in Europe in just this combination several times over the last years. They are fake without a doubt. I think they are identical to the ones shown here: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/fakes2009.htm
Please let us know if you hear from the seller. Thanks. And if you don't, please post the seller's name.
These are from modern dies. The tell on the Galley is the diagonal detailing on the staff and the Dot for an O at the end of the reverse legend.
I wrote: Hello. This coin is a modern fake/counterfeit from Serbia, 2009. You've had several coins from this group with 2 listed right now.
