This may be an naïve question but has anyone heard of a bribing issue with the top grading companies? Seems ripe for it

Happened with ANACS (possibly when they were ANA? Memory fails me.) in the early days. There's an old Coin World or Coinage article somewhere out there about it. They gave preferential grades to friends/dealers.

Consider from a business perspective how much such a "bribe" would need to be to make it worthwhile, be it a higher up, a grader, etc. I don't know about you, but if looking at the big picture, it doesn't seem very "ripe" to me.

It's definitely not ripe especially at the big two. You don't risk/destroy growing international businesses that do 8 figures a year in business for a few bucks not to mention that one of them is a publicly traded company. The only preference the big boys get is cheaper fees and faster turn around times

Rumors like this seem to pop up every so often........especially when someone who doesn't know how to grade gets a submission back with lousy grades.

I agree that there are a lot of victims in this hobby, but bribery of a TPG is not in any way the cause.
As a former cop, you should know enough to not to bark up the wrong tree. Or to suggest that the cleanest of companies might be corrupt.

You're not making friends quickly this way. In fact, you just became the shortest-tenured member ever to appear on my Ignore list; you made it in 25 posts. Congratulations. :)
