Recently,I picked up a 2003 25c. coin from Canada,so I looked at the portrait & was very shocked.I don't like it at all. What do you,the Canadian members of the board, think of the portrait of our Queen on the coins of Canada?
How about posting a pictures, so those of us without Canadian quarters in our pocket change can see what you are talking about? (I promise not to vote since your poll seems to be directed at the Canadian board members. )
The portrait in question is the one without the crown. I have shown also the previous portarait. In all there have been 4 different portraits since The Queen's first appearance in 1953.
If I were a registered voter, I would say I don't like it. On the other hand, the real question might be: Does the Queen really look like that, or is it an inaccurate portrait?
I do agree with you. I much preferred the one with the crown, despite it being an older picture of a younger monarch. (Not my monarch, but still, she's on the coins I collect)
No one asked but here are scans of the other two portraits. The 1953 version is on the left, the 1965 on the right. Bill
I have a few of the new effigy coins. It's cool how the RCM changes them with the times. I have the '04 and '05 Silver Maple Leafs with the new portrait as well as some cents. David
My fave was always the Machin portrait (the 2nd one). The Canadian ones somehow always seem to make the Queen look, 'snooty'? I dunno, kinda snobbish looking, like she's smelling something nasty. I prefer the new portrait because i never like the other one, so any change is welcome.
While I cannot vote here, I don't think the new Canadian portrait is bad ... Here is, by the way, the current British version: http://www.coinimages.co.uk/images/2000sovereignobv120.jpg Christian
Christian,we have got the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of our Queen on the coins over here in New Zealand. It is this portrait that is accurate, not the awful one from Canada, which makes her look like an aborted foetus. That is my sentiment.I don't want to offend the Queen's fellow subjects from Canada.
