As I sit here and open up these 12€ sets and pluck out the 1€ coins, I can't help but wonder what else gets picked up and kicked back into circulation. I got these for less than the exchange rate so it seems silly not to spend them (don't worry, I put two or three aside for collecting/trading purposes). These will help cover tolls on our upcoming road trip. What have you "caught and released"?
I dropped a BU roll of 1951-D Wheat cents and they rolled all over the place on our (sandy) hardwood floors. They didn't get too messed up and I was able to gather most of them back up, but there were a number of strays that hid under the furniture and so on. Since the roll was compromised and some coins did get a little hairlined and others that were lost under the furniture a while got spotty, I dumped most of 'em into the CoinStar machine with my modern change, so somebody down the line got a bonanza of (mostly) Red UNC 1951-D Wheaties with minor hairlines or spots ranging anywhere from "a tiny bit flyspecked" to "eeewww"!
They are beautiful in that condition. I personally believe they are not so pretty once circulated. The countries are: Ireland Germany Portugal France Italy Greece Austria Luxembourg Netherlands Spain Finland Belgium They came in this weird set of 5 US state quarters and 12 Euros.
