Got these in the mail today. Not my usual purchase :)

This one, Clodius Albinus, I picked up from Mat so it may look familiar.

Clodius Albinus is fun. Not someone you see every day.

I had one of his denarii in my old 2007-08 collection, but alas, the picture of it has not survived.

    Cool pickups....

I seemed to have deleted my old photo of Clodius Albinus but I did pick these two up a week or so ago.....mostly because they were at the right price:

Really nice, Randy Geki! :D I haven't seen an Alexandrian Septimius Severus denarius :O. All I have is one from the Rome Mint, but I've been looking for a decent example of an Emesa mint denarius for a while now. I love the Emesa style so much!

Here's the Rome one. This was actually my first coin from Forvm :), and my first, what I would call a, high grade coin.

No Albinus examples for me yet, but I've got my eye open for one. Probably won't be in the best grade, but that's OK.

Thanks all and sweet coins! Doug was saying that theorize that the II in AEQVITAS II refers to Alexandria as the 2nd city of the Empire.

There was a time not all that long ago that rather few dealers recognized the relatively scarce Alexandria mint Septimius denarii so you could pick them up cheaply since most are not all the high grade. Most know them now. The distinction was first made in the 1920's and appears in all the standard books for Septimius. In the 1990's, they started recognizing that a few denarii of Albinus were also struck in Alexandria. Few people care probably because nice ones are not common and denying the collectability of poor coins is fashionable.

    Two great additions, Randy!

    Here my denarii of Clodius:
The denarius with clasped hands was struck at Lyon - note the different style to the rome issues.
(I remember Steve has quite a nice Clodius denarius as well).
