IMO, it's just discolored. If it were truly missing it's clad layers, it would be much lighter than a normal quarter, and it wouldn't be so strongly struck.

It doesn't look like it. Did you weigh it?

Weight of a clad quarter is 5.67 grams. Missing clad layer will weigh approx. 4.7 g. If it were missing clad layers on both sides, it would weigh even less, and the strike would not give you the details you have on this coin. No one offered you "hundreds" for this coin. And it's not nec. to start another thread.

If it were my coin and if I had been offered hundreds of dollars, I wouldn't have hesitated to take the money and run like hell.

Well, but then when the buyer finds out it's worth a quarter, he is coming back with a loaded gun to get his money back. It's not worth the trouble.

Take the quarter and throw it in a river and forget about it. Hey, a merchant might not even take it as you pay for your purchase. :)

That coin has spent considerable time in the ground.... I have dug quarters that look just like that... no added value.. and it can be cleaned...
