I see stuff like this far, far too often.

It doesn't give me the utmost confidence in you, if you know what I'm sayin'.

Don't you have a human being or two to review this stuff occasionally?

    Geez. :banghead::facepalm:

I too see this quite frequently when looking up values in the NGC database. I wonder if it's human error, a computer glitch, or some combination of both :D

I have also noticed alot of those NGC pages like that.
    It is quite the perturbance.

Isn't it obvious what is going on? This coin was not heavily circulated so VG is much rarer and demands a premium.

Well, that the only explanation I can think of.

Live by algorithms, die by algorithms. Actually doesn't need a human to check. Simple to program so grade in a category always has price no higher than that of next higher grade.

Boss, what we have here is a failure to program.

What about those P01's that sell for more than the higher grade though?

You need to look up those prices in The Complete Idiot's Guide to Collecting Coins.

Hey lord, you are going to have to stop changing your avatar. I found your comments better when you were playing the part of Buddy Hackett wearing a Red Skelton-Freddy the Freeloader hat. LOL :) :hilarious: :playful:

Yah, you've got a point that the market does show a price increase for the really low grades versus those just above. Could set-up the program not to apply the algorithm to the low-ballers' dream coins.

Seems that NGC is about as on point with their stuff as Krause publications is lol

    NGC licenses Krause/Numismaster.

Yea, but the weirdly high prices in the low grade columns, which used to be blank, are uniquely NGC screwiness and not copied from Krause

Numismaster perhaps? I don't know if it even exists anymore to check though.

I does. I use it every day. But it is a subscription service.

I decided to take a look at Numismaster just for curiosity's sake, and it says that they are no longer accepting new registrations. I wonder why!

Interesting. I wonder why also. I have been using it for many years. My subscription is due for renewal this fall. I hope it will be accepted.

Speculation, but maybe because it's available for free over at NGC? I can't recall how easy it was to do a search...is it better than the NGC search function? I really don't know but way back when I didn't renew I THINK it was because I had access to NGC and I have a collection of the paper books. Didn't see the point in paying a subscription too.

Do you find the Numismaster interface significantly better than the NGC search function for non-US coins (where you can either use the drop down menus by country vs. typing in the country/date in a search bar)?

NGC sent me a beta test for the Registry pages where they are upgrading their software, perhaps they are going to improve the Numismater/Krause interface too.

I have not used the NGC site so cannot compare. But I like the fact that I can put any partial information into Numismaster and it will return all world coins since 1600.

For example, I can enter "Germ", "3 pf", "18" and it will return all German coins, from any state, minted in the 1800s with a denomination of 3 pfennig in all its different spellings. Can NGS do that?
