Was this error cause by a piece of tape maybe? 1985obversetape.jpg

Are you sure that it's not just glue on the coin?

I took some acetone and a cotton swab to the whole area, twice. Positive it's not glue. I will post another photo tonight to maybe show it closer. Tomorrow , if the sun ever comes out, I will take an image of this in sunlight. 1985obversetape2.jpg

I took another image today and would like to ask what caused this? Is this just PMD? 1985obverfull.jpg

I don't think lamination errors can occur on a zinc plated penny. Maybe there was some kind of damage to the plantchet or it's some strange zinc rot, the best explanation I could come up with is this was struck through something. But those are just my guesses

Thanks Tyler for the information. I will keep it and toss it into the unknown error box.

I thought many more would have replied by now, I'm interested to hear what they have to say. Paging @mikenoodle

Hey @Fred Weinberg ill try not to do this very often. But I too am really interested in finding out what the op coin is. I thought it might be struck through. Reason being is there is metal covering parts of what looks like tape. If you see in this area. IMG_2167.PNG
