Well scolded and accepted with lesson learned. perhaps I just wanted to be better accepted and jump to conclusions like others have here. Sorry for the snipe. Or am I? I would point out that this website itself does accept donations, presumably to cover the costs of running this website. I can only Wonder though what the cost is to run the website and what the total donations are. Is that published anywhere? Nowhere do I see Diogenes posting... we all have a motivation but it's private, I see no harm in cultivating that for each of us.
It's an advertisement, sanctioned by the owner of this site, which provides a service to the community at large here...........and he ain't sellin' nothin'. Except a little education, and that's offered for free........
I don't think it's published anywhere as this forum is privately owned by a single person. I can attest that he's not earning a profit on it, and will give him credit for being a stand up guy for our hobby. This forum has been here for over 15 years and is probably one of the only places where I would send a young numismatist and not worry about them being exposed to stuff they shouldn't be.
Maybe it's your screen name but I too felt like from day 1 you were posting here for one reason and one reason only Willy.
Come on, man.... just do it on the down low like everyone else. Take it as an "acid bath" if you wish, but it's better coming from from some schmo like me than one of the mods, right?
I don't know about that, it is a great Forum there's no question about that and I really enjoy reading a lot of the posts and even participating, but I find people extremely quick to jump down someone's throat here, and this is the last place I would send the kid without the advice of keep your mouth shut unless he's incredibly street-smart. I've seen some young members here beaten up terribly by a number of arrogant pompous adults who should know better. Kids are the future of coin collecting, and we need to nurture and guide them as well as tolerate their natural education in what should and can be a great lifelong hobby, but only if we accept them and appreciate their innocence. And by the way, me, what does this have to do with a 1962 proof set? Off-topic off-topic.
Argh. sorry about the screen name, I just figured that it was better to have a name that did say something about me rather than something cryptic or off topic. I mean, signing up for a discussion forum is different than if I was signing up for the Spanish Inquisition, which nobody expects.
Also, whether or not the owner of the site makes a profit on it or not I could not give a cull. it's a great site, but I just don't have the time to evaluate and judge and or criticize everyone's motivation Beyond face value, or melt value even. if I don't find a post interesting I move on. When I ask a question in here it's because I don't know the answer and I figure that you people or at least a number of you people out there are definitely going to know better than I will and with a lot of people here with different interests and experiences ... I've gotten some good answers from people. That's all. Once again, I am off topic! I'm glad I'm not into corporal self punushment.
I imagine. I'm putting together a Jefferson War nickel slabbedtbed, one coin shy, but now I find myself wanting to ditch the one PCGS as everything else is NGC, also there is one in NGC that must be an earlier Style holder as it offers no visibility to the room of the coin as opposed to most of that I seethat has the open space so you can see at least most of the rim, so that I want to replace also, and of course I want to upgrade everything to the highest MS in this case that I can and make them all the same of course. For the longest time I didn't like the idea of slabbed coins because I grew up in the day and age when you would find a lot of what you collected in circulation and enrolls every time you went to the bank. But I'm showing my age there, I grew up being able to hold everything that I collected. But in this day and age, especially with all the scammers out there, everyone's afraid to buy anything over a certain value without it being authenticated by a third-party service, which is kind of a shame, but? that is the world that we live in. For example, I really would like a trade dollar, and for that matter one with chop marks because I find them interesting and they have an historical story, but from everything that I hear and everything that I read you'd have to be crazy to buy one that isn't in a slab, and that is really just sad. I also miss penny candy and double feature drive in movies with cartoons first and a free fireworks show.
Don't go nuclear on us here; no one slapped your dog. It was made abundantly clear the suggestions were made for your own good as opposed to be some sort of masked insult. For a guy so quick to mention PC, you sure revert to that crowd's tactics quickly when it suits your position. Nonsense is nonsense no matter one's age, and is particularly true on a forum where many lie about theirs. A young person spewing BS has the same potential to cause just as much harm as when an adult does it, so why should they get a pass instead of a life lesson? If one concerns themselves more with fact, truth, and reasonable debate over fluffy handholding and coddling, everyone will be the better for it. Oh, and as for the owner of this site, it has been said that he sold his collection in order to keep it running, and recently has posed a question about selling other items (iirc) for the same purpose, so perhaps for this reason alone a little caring is in order?
Well, very true, but the day and age of the main street coin shop in every town fizzled out long ago, and even my favorite buyers and sellers I know only without voices or faces or real life hand shake... Oops, fist bump?
