Here is an 1803 USA cent:
    1803 Cent Obverse Sun 1.jpg
    1803 Cent Reverse Sun 1.jpg
The Louisiana purchase happened in 1803. $15,000,000 bought 828,000 square miles and there are 640 acres in a square mile. Therefore, each acre in the Louisiana purchase cost about 3 of these 1803 cents.

Here is a 1798 USA cent found by one of my detecting buddies on an antebellum site here in coastal Georgia. It is one of several high grade Sheldon-166 specimens found around here (note the telltale reverse die crack).
