    Hey Guys!

I was wondering if anyone new want font was used on the Denver and Philadelphia Souvenir Mint Set envelopes? I have some sets that I want to create envelopes for in my collection. I have been able to find similar envelopes (color included) and would like to print them out for my sets. I've looked at Ebay and all over the net and cannot find any information. Thanks for your input.

I do not know what font is used on mint set envelopes.

It's not 100% an exact match, but maybe give "Media Gothic Regular" a try.

Maybe Coin Talk should add a new forum......

Oh, I read it as an arts and craft project to add nostalgia to the collection.

Anyway, aren't there surpluses of US Mint envelopes already available on the 'Bay?

If I remember correctly those souvenir sets came in envelopes of different colors and possibly different fonts too. I'm saying that because I had several of each and they were not all the same.

And looking for images seems to confirm that.

So it seems to me that your best bet is to just look for original sets and forget about trying to duplicate things.

The envelopes are available on eBay for pretty cheap. I agree with Doug.

Yup. But ya gotta know what color and what font goes with year and what mint ;)

Here's the problem. With all of the older Mint Sets there are a lot of counterfeits out there. And not just the envelopes, but even the interior packaging - the pliofilm sleeves. What I'm saying is the entire sets are often counterfeited. The coins may have the right dates and mint marks, but they were merely rounded up (sometimes from among circulated coins) and then the entire set manufactured by a 3rd party.

So for collectors who want to assemble a collection of original Mint Sets and Proof sets, they have to know all these things or risk being fooled by counterfeit sets.

I have a complete set of Mint sets going back to 1959. I agree. You need to recognize the subtleties between different sets in order to spot the fakes.

I have been, hopefully at a cheap enough cost, then I can just slip my coins in the envelope. I need specifically, the Denver set font from 1972-1975. I have a 1972-D that came without the envelope. I can't find any envelopes, so I may have to purchase one of the other sets and use that envelope. I could probably give away the non-envelope souvenir set after that. :)

Under what seller? I haven't been able to find them.

I've been working on these sets for a couple of years and watching for counterfeits. Just got fed up looking for a 1972-D with envelope. They don't come up for sale very often. The one I have is authentic, but I need the envelope to make it complete. Since I have the blank envelopes, I was hoping to find out what font was used so I can just print my own for the set. Just going to keep looking for a cheap '74 and use that envelope.

That's because "want" should read "what". Late night and auto-correct don't always go together.

Are you implying that I have a reason other than wanting to have a complete set for my envelope request? Because, if you are, you are way off base. Just like I have 'brown Ikes' without a box that I go out and purchase a box for, and proof sets that I had without a box that I have gone out and purchased a box for, I simply want to make sure MY collection has envelopes with it instead of having a set with no envelope. If I could find an original envelope to purchase to use with my '72-D set, I would. I haven't been able to find one which is why I am looking for other methods to help me out. But surely that wasn't what you meant, correct?

I'm not accusing anyone of doing anything wrong. I just don't think it is a good idea to put things like this on an open forum where people can get ideas about how to take advantage of others. There are enough crooks on SleazeBay as it is.

If you want suggestions from some of the members, wouldn't it be safer to have them send you a private message?

That would be a good idea. I readily admit that, although I have been coin collecting for over 40 years, I have only been a member of this site for two years, so there may be an area I am not familiar with yet. But, how about an area/forum that lists or identifies a member with a particular specialty? (Foreign Roman Coins, Asian Coins, Morgan VAMs, etc.) That would then allow members to have the ability to ask a question directly to a person that is "seasoned" or more experienced in a particular area of numismatics. I think that is a great idea. What do you think? :)

I think we got all the categories we need. That's what I think.

And besides, what makes you think just because a question was posted in some specific area what makes you think the person answering would be qualified to answer correctly ? Who's gonna judge if they're qualified or not - themselves ?

It doesn't take long to learn who the specialists are. I don't collect foreign or ancient coins, but I'm sure if you went to either of those forums, there would be several recommendations from the members.
