I too find this trashy... more money for the TPG, but it should be removable without having to resubmit it.

Wow, that's pretty bad, I think I would contact them about it if it wasn't shown before I purchased it

I was wondering about that. Your post prompted me to do so. I asked how it can be removed at no expense to me as it was not indicated in the auction listing.

Recent world silver purchases - a details and harshly cleaned 1900 German 5 Mark and a nice original skin AU-ish 1936 Sweden 2 Kronor:

Oh, that really sucks! If I had spare funds and a submission going in I'd send it for a reholder. Ick.

Of course, that would just reinforce this as a business model for PCGS, so I'd be more tempted to send it to NGC instead if I had no skin in which holder it resided (or raw for that matter...I happen to prefer holders for the sake of my children when they go to sell it all).

I would also send a note to the place you bought it and burn that bridge with a 'I'll never do business with you again' type complaint.

edited to add: oops, I wrote this before I saw your response about emailing them. Your's was a better way to put it!

Problem is that most of the best German coins are sold by this dealer. He is big in dealer circles and wrote part of the standard guide for German coins. I've bought raw coins from him before with no problem and it is hard to get good quality German coins without going through him.

Grr then. Don't burn the bridge, but I do like your note. If it didn't show in the auction I'd be wanting some satisfaction. If you aren't the only one to let him know then perhaps he will stop that.

Well, I heard back from him. Apparently it is a sticker which peels off, but I could not find the edge. Seems like it is a prefect fit and the edges are not in the slightest bit visible. The excuse for having them there was "the stickers are meant to protect the holders". So why was there not a sticker on the back side?

Problem solved, but I don't think it was done very well.

Well, considering how scuffed the slabs can get, maybe a clear sticker isn't such a bad idea! Still wouldn't want one that's an advertisement though. Then again, I hate the dealership badges on the back of cars too.

3 M, 6 M or 12 M isn't an issue for those, as it doesn't affect the cotation in the reference books even in the superior grades. There are so many different ones, considering date and mintmark (120+ references) that you will have to find a production of less than 200 000 to really bring a premium

    Here's my example (3 M struck)

Crazy how lighting in two different photos can make the coin drastically different.

ITALY, Napoli (Regno). Filippo II di Spagna. 1554-1598..jpg
An absolute ruler, he was a firm believer in the divine right of kings – that God had appointed him as king and that, as God could not make a mistake, neither could Philip.

Philip II Governed Spain in her so-called “Golden Age” and ruled one of the world's largest empires in the 16th century

Philip II married four times; Maria Manuela of Portugal, Mary Tudor of England, Elizabeth of Valois (in France) and Anne of Austria.

Religion: Catholic. Philip II exterminated Protestants in Spain & introduced the Spanish inquisition to the New World

Pretty stoked about this win. Picked these up for about 1.5x melt. Yea they both have holes. The Napoleon is an 1802 with a mintage of 17,864 so it's pretty low. Very excited to add these to my collection.
