Hello, Please find attached the pictures from the new commemorative french coin: Asterix. This coin will be issued in November.
This is one of those "private editions" AFAIK, much like the Brocéliande/Merlin/Excalibur issues. The coins should show up at the Monnaie de Paris website http://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/boutique/index.htm once they are issued in November. Here http://boutique.europassion.org/ModuleBoutique/Produit/ProduitList.asp?strListe=Souscription is a dealer that offers them. (No, I am not advertising - in fact, I don't really care much about the gazillions of "coins" that the MdP issues. But if any of the mods thinks the links should not be there, feel free to remove them.) Christian
Thanks for the extra info chrisild :thumb: Bit on the expensive side but I might consider them for Xmas
buy 2 one for you andone for me. ihave an extra pie coin that i will trade with you the poor pie needs a home and asterix misses me wait a minute i was supposed to forget the coins
It's true that the French Mint has more and more of these "ordered" themed coins, but man, I love Asterix! I'll try to get at least the 1.5 euros when it's out!
Hello, I'm a bit ashamed of my country mint selling what is no more than fantasy coins at soooo... ridiculous price. look at the price of the 50 € gold (1155 € for 1 Oz, with a rate of 1.40 $ / 1 €, that's more than 1600 $/Oz, you can get 2 Krugerrands for the same price) I love Asterix too, but would stay away. Sorry not to share the general enthusiasm Cucumbor
From what I have read, the high prices charged for the Asterix coins are partly due to the license fees. To make these coins, you need to ask the copyright owners for permission - and then pay dearly, I suppose. That extra money will of course add to the issue price ... Christian
Asterix, Obelix, Dogmatix, Vitalstatistics, Getafix, they all know how to stick it to The Man. I'm a big fan as well.
I'm a HUGE fan of asterix... I found the coins sold out online (1.5 Euro ones) by the time I realized they were issued and not a single North American seemed to have one to spare! - I was lucky to be visiting Paris in December, so I trooped off to the Boutique at the Monnaie de Paris to try my luck there... and they still had "the banquet" in stock! The LAST 2 pieces in fact ... I took one and left the last one for some other poor soul in my situation...
update i got my asterix coins and they are wonderful i also know why they are sold out mintage of only 3000 each. I also got my tintin coins they are not hot at all and i know why they are available mintage of 10000 along with their ineffective design
Yeah,I found them online, but nothing like paying a bit less when you are on limited budgets, right!? The coins ARE PRETTY, I agree... I loved the one of the Village Charging... but its was sold out. I too felt the Asterix ones were more exciting (than Tintin) because they show actual scenes from the books...
Hmm, would that be this €20 coin? http://boutique.europassion.org/Mod...oduit=3663&intIdCategorie=139&intNumeroPage=1 Europassion lists that piece as disponible/available, at a price of roughly 300 euro (plus VAT where applicable). Click on "ajouter au caddie" (or "add to cart" in the English language version) at the very bottom of that page. As for the Hergé coins, well, I do not like colorized coins a lot. Also, I bought the Belgian Tintin coin issued in 2004, and decided one is enough. Christian
Yes that is the one... I meant sold out from the French Mint (Monnaie de Paris)... They are brilliant to make France's most internationally recognizable cartoon character with a mintage of 3,000 - while previously churning out 10-15K of their other commems. I notice they have done this will almost all their 2007 coins (low mintage)... nobody buying their coins? Europassions has the "Village Charge" coin marked up by about 50 Euro or about 20%, which makes an already very expensive coin just more unreasonalble... but of all the coins, it has the best design IMO. I have the Herge coin issued by the Belgium Mint in 2007, nice simple design.
