Hello all, I have just recently started looking and hopefully collecting error coins. Going through my spare change bucket I noticed a odd "shadow" on the reverse side of a 1992 D Lincolin cent. Above the flat letters of the United States of America it looks to be a shadow or metal showing through. I haven't seen anything about this type of error or if its a error at all and would love to here any opinions or advise. Ibhave attached a few photos on one of them adjusted the saturation to better see the difference. Also seems this shadowing appears on both sides of the Lincolin Memorial.
First, welcome to the neighborhood @SepticStevo ! I can't tell from your photos, but you should be aware that the crappy Zincolns often produce a lot of anomalies that can't be explained by anything other than zinc rot. Chris
Not an error. Post 1982 cents were made from zinc then plated with copper. Sometimes the strike tends to pull the plating and tear it around the devices exposing the zinc underneath. Eventually the zinc will rot and the cent will be ruined.
