has anyone ever thought of counting how many coins were actually made as a whole, in USA history? ( I realize that there could be some inconsistencies, and not exactly every coin can be recorded, but an estimated guess?)Did some looking around and it doesn't look like anyone has ever counted how many actually was made!! Even an estimated guess would be good for me. I was just thinking of how crazy it is to be a coin collector. All it takes is one coin out of however many billions there maybe, and out of that billion, and that's a billion chances that I could get rich, I even though how strange it is how not many people who play the lottery knows a thing about coins. I kind of realized I could compare my addiction of looking through coins to someone with a lottery addiction. This is like the one thing I wish parents would teach their children.
First, you have to determine what was the first coin made by the US. After 1776? Colonial? US Mint Opening?
Beyond USA, in whole world, how many coins were actually made in whole world in world history is ... trillions... trillions... billions of them were recycled back to the industry before they were not utilized. millions of them were "circulated", resting in cash boxes. tousands of them are resting in tip boxes. hundreds of them are resting in the collections. tens of them are resting in the sea, on and in the ground. one of them is kept in my pocket. Nobody knows the rest. Conclusion: how intelligent(!) humans are... they are spending much efforts to make a thing and they are throwing it into the garbage even without using it, without learning it. And, they have been repeating this over and over everywhere in the world for tousands of years... Too complicated to understand the humans for a simple man like me. You wish parents would teach their children? Parents don't know, how can they teach? Impossible. Parents, from poor to rich, from uneducated to much educated, should teach themselves first before teaching any children.
Here's all of the mintages since 1890 (e.g. the vast majority of coins made by the US Mint). I remember copying and pasting these into an Excel sheet one time and if I recall correctly, the total was over 500 billion. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Mint_coin_production
