This whole thing seems very fishy to me. I was shocked (SHOCKED) to see the sellout with such a high montage. That the sets are still going 6 hours after being re-released makes me wonder whether the mint held some back. Or maybe some clown ordered 100,000 sets and the mint put on their big boy pants and stopped the abusive practice.

Either way, I was glad I could get one direct without being bent over on ebay.

I'm just glad that the small collector was able to get 2 (instead of just 1) at the regular price. The other day I also bought the various Silver sets that they had.

There's logical and reasonable explanations without anything fishy going on. Supposedly someone canceled an order of 20k sets. There have probably been some other cancels from people who were able to get them at the shops or Denver, and if they weren't selling well enough during the show so far some other dealers may have backed off of orders as well.

I don't really care why... I'm just glad that they did.

And I agree, I don't think it's in any way "fishy".

I won't bother playing point/counterpoint. I'll simply say that collectors should have a chance (a reasonable amount of time) to purchase the mints products directly from the mint, Before the scalpers/flippers, that are solely out to make an immediate profit take them all, because they sellout in minutes during the middle of a business day. Hence the need for household limits or similar restrictions. And if the U.S. government (mint) wanted to make a real profit from producing coinage, they should start by making beautiful coins consistently, with a variety of techniques.
I can be available at the perfect times to play the "hurry hurry" to get the order in game with the mint, many others aren't. I admit I completely forgot this time. I was 18 minutes late. Luckily, some of us got a second chance today. The mint accepted orders, and charged for them anyway.
Ultimately, I feel bad for the true collectors that have to pay extra for a product due to the current methods of distribution.

Exactly. As I stated in an earlier post. I have to buy a set for the quarters, for my quarter collection. I hate to break up a set just for those coins, but what to do with the others? Focusing collecting mainly ONE denomination over a span of xx amount of years is time consuming. Especially when looking for the best coin in the budget you can afford. I've got a sneakin' suspicion the mint may be sold out by next week by the time I get to order my set. One person on here already posted the sets for sale that they got, at almost double the issue price. 60.00 for five quarters is steep to me. But that's what happens more often than not. We get stuck, and BBQued.

My point is just that it's much more complicated. Collectors aren't their major customer, the big boys and dealers are. The same is pretty much true for most mints around the around if not all. They're their to sell their products however they can. They still have things from years ago for sale on the site that they can't sell. They would rather sell out in five minutes then wait 2 years.

I'd casually disagree since the obverse of the 2017 Sac, which is the only commonality between the 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 coins, does NOT have the same finish. It is significantly different.
Well, let me clarify. On this new set, only the letters LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST have a clear finish while on the 2014-2016 Enhanced Uncirculated coins, her face, the babies face and the Stripes on her robe have a clear finish in addition to LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

WHY, the US Mint couldn't stick with what they had is just crazy!

The entire point of the "Enhanced Uncirculated Finish" was to highlight certain areas of the design. The obverses of the Coins in this Set have absolutely nothing done to them which would highlight the design other than shiny letter tops on a Satin Finish.

Time to unload my two extra sets because these Enhanced Uncirculated coins kinda suck. Well, the reverses on the Quarters are ok but the obverses are Satin Finish at first glance.

I agree. I am disappointed with the finishes on the set. It looks like they rushed through the process, and I don't really understand why.

    How?

Kinda simple since even though they are advertised as "Enhanced UnCirculated, they look more like Satin Finish on the Obverses.

IIRC, the 2009 CnClad and Silver Proof sets carried 4 Lincoln Cents which were minted with the original alloy of 95% Copper (kinda cool at the time) yet, these have not held any sustaining value and can be had for less than issue.

I'm of the opinion that this 2017 Set is just a big disappointment if you compare previous Enhanced Uncirculated finish coins with whats in the Set.The Sac is displayed in an earlier post.

It looks like they didn't do anything to enhance anything on the new 2017 coins. Does anybody have any pictures of the reverses of the 2017 enhanced quarters? If they are dull like the other coins I'll probably just pass it up.

If I saw it correctly the outer ring on the quarters is polished as is the legends on the reverse (obverse). You know, the side with Washington on it.

I was looking for something similar to the Enhanced Sacagawea Dollars, or Silver eagle, in having certain aspects of the design standing out with different finishes.

It looks like they took the short cut and easy way out and just "enhanced" the lettering, as well as their bottom line profit.

How are these dies made? How can you polish just the incuse parts of the die?

Wow. I was excited for these but after seeing your pictures I have to agree these are a HUGE disappointment. I can see why orders are being canceled

Think about this, the incused parts of the coin are raised on the die. That's why proofs had a cameo contrast. They polished the fields without disturbing the pickled (or matte) devices. Polishing the inner parts without disturbing the fields couldn't be done until laser etching was used.

Yeah I know, that's why I asked how they polished the incuse parts of the die (not the parts of the die that produce the incuse part of the coin).

So the incuse parts of the die are "polished" with lasers?

No. The entire die is polished and then the fields are etched with lasers.

There are no incused parts on these coins.

This answers my question. Thanks. So whatever they are using to polish the die can get into the nooks and crannies of the die's surface (i.e. the incuse parts of the die)?
