PCGS is really not a grading service at all

    Yes, a blast from the past. It appears to be an article from 1997.

    I like the part .... "Among the more notable of the smaller services are the International Numismatic Society (INS) in Washington, D.C., the Rare Coin Exchange in Chicago and the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC)."

    NGC ..one of the "smaller" services ......Wow ..I remember those days.

    Very insightful, and right in a lot of respects. I still prefer to go look at a coin in person slab free and barter for a price instead of some company dictating what I should pay based on a grading system that isn't really all that consistent.
