I'm not a veteran coin collector, but I was wondering if this is pretty accurate in what is out there for coin magazines and how they rank in terms of popularity. Here is my list which is probably missing some magazines. 1) Coin World- the weekly issue 2) Coin World- the monthly issue 3) Numismatic News 4) CoinAge 5) Coins Magazine
Depends on what you're looking for. I get the occasional copy of Coin Prices to get an idea as to what the retail market is doing. It's not big on articles - just prices and MINTAGES. Of course the mintages don't change but I just like the mag.
prices to get your prices is very simple. u.s. mint, any large dealers published at those four well known magazines, your favorite on line websites. your nearby and frequently visited coin stores. those are the places you gonna get your average prices.
I get Coin World / Coin Prices combo , Numismatic News, and CDN, enjoy them all. I have also started picking up some old coin magazines on eBay cheap. Fun to read but painful. Ouch, should have bought those Gem 65 S-VDB's back when they were $500
They all pretty much suck, IMO. You'll find lots more (and better) info on the internet and in books...Mike
Numismatic News- great articles, mintage numbers, other great info PLUS a fairly comprehensive monthly price guide! I also buy the on-line issue of The Greysheet (CDN) at least twice monthly so as to get both the American Eagles prices (3B)and the State Quarter Rolls prices (3A). Every now and then I purchase CDN's Monthly Supplements and the Bluesheet for updated dealer prices for graded coins.
I get Coin World with, of course, the monthly Coin Values. That gives me reasonable retail information. I also have a monthly subscription to CDN which also includes the Monthly Supplement and the Quarterly's. That gives me reasonable wholesale information. Toss in surfing eBay results and I'm pretty much covered. (Obviously I'm talking US coins only.)
Coin mags are simply a book of coin advertisements with a couple of articles intermixed. To illustrate the point ...take an old issue of CW or NN and cut out all of the ads. See what you have left ...it's not worth the paper it's printed on.
i enjoy cw, nn, coinage and coins magazine................whatever floats your boat! i like learning from many avenues. grizz
Lemmyk sig: "Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the b*****ds who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home - Gen. George S. Patton " THANKS Lymmyk, I agree. "Patton" greatest American of the 20th Century. Oh Yeah, You NEED Coin World every week.....
