That is one reason I watch a lot of them - at the right price makes it worth the cross over. Or I can crack them for my albums. :)

DISCLAIMER: I know many of the folks at the TPGS you all are writing about; yet I'll tell it like it is in my posts (an opinion from my perspective). Just as I fuss at opinions from members here, I'll bash the TPGS if necessary but I'll always try to be fair. Here goes:

Paddy54, posted: "I disagree as collectors like myself would look at an Anacs slab actually before a pcgs or NGC. I hear this echoed time and time again and at shows seen Ana s slabs go out the door as fast or even faster than the other two."

I hope this is an exaggeration to make a point. I'll suggest that all of us look at the products from EVERY service. If you cannot grade on par with a professional, I'll also suggest you look at slabs graded by the top two services FIRST as they sell better. There are "rips" in all slabs. Hold out for a cheaper price if buying SEGS, ICG, or ANACS. To say that ANACS slabs sell faster (when not very deeply discounted) than the others is NUTS from what I see and hear. Most collectors will not buy any coin unless graded by NGC or PCGS. The guys at ANACS are equal to anyone. Unfortunately their product is not and the ugliest slab ever made does not help their bottom line. I don't expect them to be around in 3-4 years. :(

Paddy54, posted: That depends again on whom you're talking to....Anacs will slab and note just about any variety the other 2 only a handful picked few.
As a variety collector I find more in Anacs then again the other 2."

If you have varieties there are only two services to use ANACS or ICG. Both do just about anything that is listed somewhere. Nevertheless, if it is a "big" one that either NGC or PCGS does, send it to one of them.

H8_modern, posted: I agree their grading is fine and in some cases stricter than the big 2. My comment is based on my experience selling. Anecdotal as it is, that's what I've seen and as noted above that's been what @C-B-D has experienced as well."

I agree, so that makes four of us.

jwitten, posted: "I have a few gold Indians that have matching die cracks, etc. Wonder if they do discovery coins on those? How do you know if something is known or discovered yet?"

At this point in time, only specialists care about die breaks. Some are sought out as neat mint errors or varieties. So, the best you can hope for is to have things such as "Major Die Break," "Cud," "Shattered Die," etc. as is done by ICG and others. Until a website is set up or a book of different die breaks is published, that's the best you can hope for. IMO, such a web site would be extremely popular! Why not start one?

jester3681, posted: "I'm done wasting my money on fly-by-night outfits like ANACS, PCGS, and NGC. I'm saving my money and rarities for the Wooderson Galleries & Rare Coins team. I hear they have a new facility in the works... ;)"

This is the funniest post I've read in months! Gee, I wonder if I can buy some stock in the new service? I certainly hope that WG&RC realizes that the cost to start any grading service is well over $150,000 and since the first TPGS was established, over a dozen are no longer around - including the first one. So, I'll bet we're going to get just another "sticker" service. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Crazy 8 ends tomorrow, packages have to be postmarked by Tuesday. I got 16 Dan Carr items on the way, 4-6 week wait....:(

  7. Wouldn't it be great if Dan could ship orders directly to ANACS for grading? :woot:

He's about a hours drive away, great idea, just add $30 to your order.

  9. He already has an established arrangement with ANACS to grade his work too. It makes a lot of sense to me to offer this optional grading service. ANACS forms should really have a separate line item for his work IMO.

I'm guessing that even if this was possible he is way too busy to add this to his service. His time is much more valuable than the relative pittance he would make in fees over grading cost for the service. And this would take a ton of time especially if it took off. Plus there is many pitfalls. What if someone got a 70 but he mixed up the line items and accidentally gave that 70 to someone who got a 69 etc. Not gonna happen.

  11. You are over complicating things. All he would really have to do is ship the order directly to ANACS in the customer's name and it would be out of his hands. The ANACS form could go directly from the customer to ANACS with all details worked out before the shipment arrives. As Chief said, he gets an extra $30 just to mail it to ANACS.

Meh. Maybe. But I can still see it being a big burden to an already packed schedule especially if it takes off.
