That's my plan, Lee. I'm going to wait 6 months to a year and wait for the flippers to have distributed the sets and hope that there will be a glut of them.
Just call me "NOSTRAJOHNAS" Too bad I couldn't remember to be online to place that order on time. Now it's this or prayers if you want one. I'll try prayers first.
Agreed. Who knows what they'll be 6 months from now. The limited edition silver set, the 4 Liberty medal set, and I'm betting some surprise unannounced anniversary piece will/could be upcoming.
I think you made the right move. Unfortunately I forgot to set an alarm and was über focused on what I was working on and missed the boat.
I actually have 50 2005 unc. sets (first satin finish) that aren't worth much more than FV. hard to tell very high grade ones inside the ogp. (for me anyway) so breaking them out would be a crapshoot.
Well when you control the supply you don't really have to take into consideration customer concerns!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
IMO, folks should be resentful towards the mint for not having household limits, not the ones that took advantage of the opportunity. These sets are produced for collectors. Once again though, the collector gets left out. It's enough to just stop collecting anything the mint offers, after all, there's plenty of other mints out there. Both private, and national. I can't even begin to communicate the disdain and seething hatred I have for our mints procedures/policies with these type of offerings.
John, don't get me wrong. I am not unhappy with people who see a profit-making opportunity and take advantage, that's capitalism. What burns me is when large buyers buy giant percentages of total mintage crowding out buyers and keeping many from not being able to purchase. Who's fault is it? The US Mint's, but it is the greed that burns me, not the Mint's stupidity.
That is capitalism, but the modern warped version of it's original ideals. What we see nowadays is a culture of consumerists that eat unti they pass out, just to wake and do it again. There is no satisfaction in that, but they will keep chasing the dangling carrot in hopes to one day obtain it. Is it an unfortunate byproduct? I like to think so. I agree that it is the supplier that causes this type of business model to exist, but it's also the consumers that fuel unethical practices by supporting them with their purchases. I missed the boat and I'm not going to buy one off eBay, but that's just me. I'd like to own one, but if I had to earn my money ethically I'm going to spend it the same as far as I can control that.
Agreed. Pure GREED. Just wouldn't/couldn't happen if the limits were in place. I can already see these on HSN, Coin Vault, big bullion dealers, etc... making huge profits at the collectors expense. AGAIN!!!
Whelp, Forgetful Jones did it again........he forgot to be logged onto the mint site at 12PM. Shoot. And I was gonna bundle this offering with the 225th silver medal (which is still available). Oh well, 225 thousand ain't rare by any means. I'll wait a few weeks and buy in the aftermarket, but just to echo what many of you folks have already said........why wasn't there a limit placed on this offering? The mint knew this set would be popular with collectors, so how come? The deep pockets, big britches, greedy, fat cat dealers can choke on it.
I think they'll fall to reasonable prices within a few months. Remember the 2014 Kennedy sets they also had a max mintage of 225,000 and how about all the other other enhanced uncirculated Native American dollars of the past few years, very few of these have maintained any sort of long term premium and some of the N.A. dollars are way lower mintages.
The number of people that collect annual mint sets is pretty high. A lot higher than people that collect product series with relatively short existences or one time special issues. Many annual proof set collectors will want this set. I think that this could end up like the 2012 proof sets which are still selling for a premium on ebay.
@green18 Well Ken, I forgot to remind you as well this morning. I did remember as I put some in my cart.....shucks, Ken has this, he will remember I says to myself. Maybe someone will have your back. Someone who's back you were willing to cover.
I have missed a few of the enhanced finish sets over the last few years, and made sure i was logged in at 12pm, kept re-freshing the site till the set was avail to buy. Wasnt sure how many to get, but decided on three, didnt want to be greedy. one to break up and to put into albums, one to keep as a ogp set, and last one to bundle with other enhanced sets I got to trade for enhanced sets I have missed!
