Your second coin, with the scales, is from Zanzibar.

First coin could be Egypt, or Somewhere in the Ottoman Empire

Hi, your first coin is a 1/2 cedid mahmudiye from Constantinople mint, Ottoman Empire (Turkey). Guessing from relative size. It is dated 1223 AH, year 28, or about 1834 AD. It should be about 0.7g and 83% gold. Color looks a bit off though. Km#644.

I agree with Ottoman Empire 1223AH but I think the reign year is 18 and the coin is silver, not gold. Maybe KM578 5 Para . My older Krause volume doesn't give much info or pics, but it looks similar to the year 15,16 5 para. The 1 Para is listed at .600 silver so that could explain the off color and tarnish/corrosion around the devices. That's my best guess, but getting an ID for 19th century Ottoman/Egyptian coins from Krause can be challenging

The first one is a common novelty copy of an Ottoman coin, used for adornments. It is made of base metal rather than precious. They are often referred to as kuchi coins.

Interesting. Kuchi is Arabic for dog.

It refers to the Kochi/Kuchi people, who famously use them for decorating their traditional outfits

Ah yes. I almost forgot that they are also a nomadic tribe. Which reminds me to give a correction on Arabic. It was Daari that kuchi means dog. I forgot which country I learned that in.

I had a total deja vu moment and sure enough, we had this same conversation a couple years back. The beauty of forums, more effective learning through repetition :)

That is where I learned of the Kochi nomads association to the word as well lol
