What exactly am I looking at here?

I have been looking at this coin that I received in a lot of ancient and medieval coins off and on for the last few weeks and have reached the point where I feel like some additional help is needed.

I think that this bronze coin (16 mm) may be a counterstruck coin from Carthage because of the standing horse and palm tree on the obverse below the counterstuck figure. What is odd is that there appears to be a galloping horse on the reverse as well that has been 'flattened' by the counterstrike. Through my research I have been unable to find a coin with a horse on both sides of the coin.

It is a really interesting coin and I'd like to learn more about it. Unfortunately it is difficult for me to get a good photo of this coin so here goes nothing...

Hmm. I don't know and it is difficult to tell with blurry images :(.

The first picture looks like it was triple-struck. There's a horse, a bust left (Tanit?), and some other indistinct motif. Maybe it is a flipover double strike of a coin which was struck over some other type? The second picture is not as revealing.

Certainly overstuck, IMO. Can't really tell what it's over struck on.

I think it is a flipover double strike of the same Carthage coin I have but my coin is overstruck on a coin of Akragas. The head is flanked by grain ears and there is a prancing horse on the reverse. My wifi is too weak to accept my image but CNG has one:

I suspect most of these were overstruck on something but figuring out what is not always easy.

I agree with Doug, it looks like a flip over double strike. A similar coin (from CNG), but a bit too much hair.

I also thought that it was a flip over strike but the two horses are distinctly different. The horse on the obverse is larger and standing while the horse on the reverse is galloping (or in motion).

The bust on Doug's coin is very similar to the one that is overstruck on my coin. I don't believe it to be Tanit so that would also rule out the flip over strike idea. The horse and palm tree is definitely below the overstruck bust and is in keeping with other Carthage coinage that I've seen.

So could it have started out as a Akragas coin similar to Doug's, then only the obverse overstruck in Carthage, and finally the obverse overstruck with the bust? Seems like a reach but I'm not sure how else to figure it out.

Thanks for all of the replies so far.

Not a flipover as there is a palm tree behind the horse and the type with the grain ears has a prancing horse.

You have coin 1 struck over coin 2.

Barry, That is a much more eloquent way to say what I was trying to describe. Thanks
