Checked the US Mint prodiuct availibility and don't see anything for the regular uncirculated release date. As far the proof, gold and platinum versions, the website gives those dates.

My question is does the Mint sell the Uncirculated under $10 version of the Silver Eagle or does one have to seek elsewere?

I would like to get a few a soon as they become available. Any info, great appreciatted. Thanks Jm

You'll have to buy those from a private individual, such as a coin dealer.

The Mint doesn't sell them to the public. Only to a select group of distributors.

    Good luck!

The unc. silver eagles will be release TO THE DEALERS on Jan. 2 and should be available within days after that. I am expecting to pick up mine, when I return from Kansas, and that would be around the 8th. I am just thankful that the silver market dropped when it did or we would have been looking at very expensive eagles this year. My advice would be to get those eagles in Jan. before the market starts a swing back upward (as predicted) in Feb.

I have never understood why the mint doesn't sell unc. SAE to the general public. You would think that they would want all of the sales that they could get. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks.

The SAE is a commodity, in difference to the Proof version, which is marketed as a collectible.

A quote from the Mint's website says....

"...the Mint does not sell American Eagle Bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, the Mint distributes uncirculated bullion coins through a network of wholesalers, brokerage companies, precious metals firms, coin dealers, and participating banks. This method provides effective and efficient distribution, which maximizes the availability of the coins in retail markets as well as major investment markets."

Should they be priced around $10 a coin?

Do they sell them by the roll also?

Finally as recommendation to the mint. The Eagles should be included in the mint sets or at least an option.

    Hi,
Yes they are available in rolls........twenty coins to a roll..and also in large boxes of 500 coins nicknamed
"green monsters" because of the green color and their substantial weight. Some dealers "presale" these on Ebay and you can usually find a decent price for them if you shop around.......I would also reccommend an early purchase as silver has been up and down lately..........typically the prices are higher for the first few weeks...then they start to decline a bit as the market gets saturated.......however with the flucuations in price....dealers may be less reluctant to drop prices on their supplies if they feel there is a chance the market will rebound. I would expect to see prices in or around the ten daollar mark for these but it could jump up rather quickly. I love the SAE's......and I try to keep up on the new issues for each year.......I did not do so earlier and I am still looking for some of the earlier proofs.

Reread, and think about, that quotation from the Mint's own website:

"...the Mint does not sell American Eagle Bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, the Mint distributes uncirculated bullion coins through a network of wholesalers, brokerage companies, precious metals firms, coin dealers, and participating banks. This method provides effective and efficient distribution, which maximizes the availability of the coins in retail markets as well as major investment markets."

If the mint considers them to be chunks of bullion and treats them accordingly, why should we pretend they are "coins"?

    I can agree with that.

Does anyone know of a Nationally Recognized Bank Chain that usually has them?

United States Congress required a money value be placed on them (one dollar) thus they entered the realm of coins even though they are made for silver bullion investors. Actually the Mint had no idea they would catch on with collectors and was taken by surprise when they did. Now they are very much sought after world wide and the unc. version is by far more popular than the costly proof version.
Quite honestly the cost of the eagles will vary from dealer to dealer, when they are released, but I am looking in the neighborhood of $8.50 at my dealer unless something changes between now and the last of the first week of Jan. Will keep you all posted on my retail price here in southern Indiana (Just a little too close to promotion)

I don't know of any that carry them, at least they don't promote them. But my question is this. With the attitude the banks have about their customer base Why would I want to do business with any bank unless I had to..?

I have seen a few local banks keep some silver and gold bullion around and quite honestly buying from the Home Shopping Network probably would be about the same thing! The banks REALLY mark them up hoping for an unsuspecting customer lokking to buy a gift for someone, regardless of the cost or an unknowledgable individual looking for a new investment and the shiney gold and silver just "takes" their breath away (having never seen anything so beautiful) and then the bank just TAKES there money away. Not a good place to buy gold or silver bullion. My bank actually keeps a catalog available from a national dealer, who sells at a tremendous mark up, in the event they can "help" their loyal customers out? They have their own price sheet which has been "marked up" yet again! They are definitely NOT going to sell anything to a coin collector!

Ya' know, I've seen some pretty good deals on the SE's on eBay. Some tubes are going for under $170. Of course, you have to watch that shipping "gotcha" too.
