Was looking for input on the marks on the obverse of this 1885 20 cent piece from Hong Kong. Are they chop marks or other damage? Any thoughts on grade would be appreciated.

Does seem to look like a purposely applied chop. Although I do remember that chops on the queens head were generally regarded bad luck. Worth maybe looking more into. I know the dollar size coins of HK were chopped I've never seen small coins like this so it could be something of a scarcity or counterfeit chops.

Doesn't look like any merchant chopmarks I've ever seen. If I had seen his coin for sale I would regard it as other damage.

The X above the head looks like a chop so my guess is the mark on the neck is one also.

Maybe more inclined to be test punches like the X

I like Victoria and I like chops so I would have bought it and thought about it later too.

Chop marks. The one next to the "Q" is typical. I've not seen one like the punch on the neck.
