FOUND Tracking number shows delivered 2 days ago but I have not seen it.

  1. I actually prefer USPS myself despite their problems. I live in a quiet neighborhood with many retired folks and have never had a package stolen. I think it mostly boils down to your carrier. I have a really good one. He actually made it a point to deliver a certified letter at lunch time because he knew I would be home.

But if you have a bad carrier look out. Think about getting a PO box if that happens.

I have never had this happen but a recent purchase I made from a dealer in Canada took 3.5 weeks to arrive! I was pretty sure it was lost but it finally showed up.

It's mostly reliable where I am. But I had a roll of silver halves marked as "delivered at mailbox" that never appeared. eBay made me whole and the seller kept his money. I requested a package search, and got a message two months later that they hadn't found it and were giving up.

Redelivery is worse. I got a missed-delivery slip on a Friday, and went to schedule redelivery for Saturday. I wasn't sure they could do next-day redelivery, but there was nothing indicating otherwise on the Web site, and it let me select the next day as my target date.

Waited all morning into the afternoon Saturday, and when the carrier came, there was no package. No note, no redelivery on Monday, no email, nothing. Not a good experience.

So, I'll drive to the post office this coming Saturday with the slip, and see if they can retrieve the package, along with another one that really shouldn't have been sent signature-required but was...

Albert: That is a beautiful coin, I hope it turns up soon. I would talk to the neighbors and post office ASAP.

I would NOT use no signature required for your PO box. The first time I had a valuable package delivered to my box with this feature it was stolen. You are just inviting anyone in the post office to steal it. There was a long thread about it last year.

Hope this saves someone from a loss.

I spent a couple of hours going through trash from the last few days. I hate doing that. I looked inside the mailbox and the trail to it, went through everything on my desk and amongst a pile of magazines and mail with no luck. Then I sat to try to remember what I did that day. I remembered that I was out most of the day and I pulled up to the mailbox in my car and reached in to pull out the mail. There was a ton of mail that day and a few padded envolopes that are coin size. So I tucked in between the center console and the seat. I took my mail inside and opened it. There were guitar strings, bridge pins and other none coin stuff. Bottom line is in went out to the car and there it was plain as day between the seat and console.

Needless to say I'm happy to find it. It's as nice in hand as the pictures.

Woo hoo!:D I'm so happy you found it, alde!

I totally understand the sense of relief you must have felt! My brother recently received a coin that got lost in the mail for 4 months.

Glad you found it. I have done similar; asked a buyer where the check was, said he sent it. Eventually found it under the car seat. Also not too surprised it wasn't the PO's fault, though they do sometimes do strange things. A few weeks ago they returned a package to sender that had correct PO box #, correct state, correct ZIP, almost correct city - sender had left "ville" off the city name. [I guess ZIP codes don't mean anything anymore?] On the other hand, a few years back, I got a registered package with correct street number, wrong street name, correct city, wrong state, correct ZIP. But my favorite is the $5 eBay item that arrived after 3 months - pen cancelled stamps, no postal markings - except for the rubber stamp "Sent to Taiwan in error." [It was mailed a couple of states away, not an international order.]

Thanks for all the support. I was less stressed about having been able to share my heartache with my friends.

I now have 3 nice new Hadrian denarius that I will post together soon.

What an engaging saga. I could resonate with both ends of the story, so the satisfaction you feel has been passed along. So relieved to hear that you found it.

Yay! Glad this had a satisfactory outcome.

Thanks, KD. You just did. *cringe* :nailbiting::yack:;)

To be fair, with the recent near-catastrophe aside, I will say that I've been impressed with the USPS' delivery times and overall efficiency over the last few years. I've had some other horrible experiences in the past, but they've been few and far between, and 98-99% of the time I'd say I'm satisfied with them.

I just found it rather disturbing that the one coin of mine they misdelivered happened to be the most valuable.

(It was already my coin, but was returning to me after an aborted swap deal that fell through.)
