I found this in my stash of wheats. It appears that it MAY be a 1914-D. It has apparently been shot or some kind of damage. My question is: are there any known die markers for a 1914 D cent? Opinions appreciated. Kirk
You see how the lower left corner of the "L" in liberty is touching the edge? thats one of the main markers.
Actually I think it might have started as a 1944. Definitely altered. Attempted to add the mintmark and was punched too hard, hence the bulge on the reverse. Not sure why the punch mark on the reverse.
if it did start out as a 1944 then the initials VDB should be visible under Lincoln's bust. If someone were going to alter a 1944 cent though, I would think it would make more sense to just start out with a 1944-D and not have to mess with trying to add a mintmark.
There is a lot of space between the 9 and the second 1. Kirk: Did you check for the VDB on the shoulder?
its fake. it dosn't make sence that its in that good of shape, yet the metal around the date is messed up. looks like an ebay 1914D cent.:rolling:
