Here's another take on the coin. This is using a blend of axial lighting with direct lighting, somewhat similar to PCGS TV. Of course I have to contend with the light reflecting off of the surface of the plastic, which causes a bit of a color cast. I wish I could shoot them all out of the plastic like PCGS could.
Given these pictures, I will up the ante: I had said PR 63, but given these shots, I would say PR 64+, or even PR 65. It is very close to PR 65. Incredible looking coin.
When do we get to see the holder? The famous Mr. well you know will show up soon after the reveal!!!!
The holder will appear soon. I usually wait at least 24 hours before posting a reveal, that way some that did not see it right away can get a chance. I'll reveal in just over an hour from now.
Trying to grade proofs from images is always just a guess. The amount of hairlines has a big impact on the grade and some images hide those hairlines.
Yeah, those hairlines in the right field are much more distracting in image #1. Hard with the plastic too like jtlee alluded to. My gut reaction was PR63 when I saw that one but the second looks substantially more appealing and closer to a 65. I'll go with 64 as my final guess.
So this one is very tricky. First of all it's a proof. The first set of images were intentional to make it look it's worst. The second set were to bring it out and make it look much better more like it feels in hand. Most of your guesses based on the first set of images were reassuring to me. The coin is in a PCGS rattler and graded PR-63.
I know that when this was graded that the CAM, DCAM designation was not used on proof coins before 1950. I feel that this one would get the CAM designation today. I also feel that it is under graded in this holder. I think it's much more deserving of a 64 with a good chance at 65. Those hairlines that you refer to, are they the patch between F A and just in front of Liberty's nose? If so, that is not hairlines, it's some sort of residue or something on the surface. I had noticed that right away when I first saw it, but I realized it's not a patch of hairlines, which is why I ended up bringing this beauty home.
Well I am sure this one would gold bean under today's standard. Sweet pick up..... look out Heavycam.monstervam is going to make you a godfather offer...lol
LOL, I don't doubt it. He has already twisted my arm for one of my prized coins. I had to make him an offer I thought he might refuse, but alas I was wrong. This one would require an offer I don't think he would make.
I was referring to the area just to the right of her lips. They didn't draw my eye in image #2 or the slab photo. (Love the perspective of the slab shot by the way.) Can definitely see why you brought her home- gorgeous coin!
Oh Lord Justin ......you know what that means.....you're going to wake up with a two headed toned Morgan in bed!
