It says delivered to mailbox. I got mail that day but not the coin. I have received neighbours mail in my box in the past and of course made sure they got it. If my coin ended up in somebody else's box I hope they have the decency to do the same.

    Here is the dealer picture.

That's a beautiful coin. I hope whoever has it now will have the decency to return it to its rightful owner.

Oh no! I hope this is just a computer error and delivery has not yet been attempted. Short of that, I hope it went to a neighbor who returns it to you. The other option is that the postal carrier has it :(.

Call your local post office and let them know. The handheld scanners that the mail carriers use are equipped with gps, they can find the exact location where it was scanned at delivery, and if it's been misdelivered they'll attempt to retrieve it.

Cool! I didn't know that. That makes it much less likely that the package was pilfered by a postal worker :).

I'm sorry about your misdelivered coin! Most people will have the decency to return a package that's not addressed to them. I would go to your local post office as soon as it opens and tell them about it.

I recently had a $2,300 coin (my only coin in that price range) misdelivered to the wrong building, with a completely different address, and signed for there by someone I had never heard of. It was a complete USPS blunder, since the address was totally different. (Same ZIP code, same general vicinity, different road, different building. Duh?!?)

By coincidence, the place it landed happened to be another building owned by the same company I work for. I figured out where it was, once USPS gave me the address of the place they'd (wrongly) delivered it to. Then I tracked it down myself with a half an hour of frantic phone calls. USPS had not even begun looking for it, assuming they eventually would have in the first place.

I finally got it delivered to me via interoffice mail by an employee of our company who knows me. I never told USPS that, so for all they know, or care, it is still missing. (Of course I did not make any insurance claim.)

I hope your situation has a similar resolution.

I hope it turns up soon @alde! You just need the USPS to be helpful and the recipient to be honest. Stranger things have happened!

That happened to me once, only a $16 coin but a pain in the a** to try and retrieve to no avail. Thanks again USPS.

I once had a package of desiccants get lost by this postal service I've never heard of before. It was from Amazon, and the tracking said delivered with signature... I take a look at the signature and it looks as if a child printed out my full name. I got my money back for it, but after a week I stumbled upon the lost package in my dad's car. Turns out he took it from the front door, where it was left, and put it in the car on his way out to work. I ended up contacting Amazon to reverse the refund.

I know its nothing, just some desiccants, but it really got my blood boiling. Why would Amazon chose to use some rinky dink carrier instead of the national one? Of course, I know the answer to that... free shipping isn't really free. Ah, oh well! Hope this never happens with a coin. :)

I hope you end up finding your coin! I'm sure it's nothing. :) Just keep the pressure up on USPS.

Despite all it's faults, I still prefer to use the USPS over UPS/Fed Ex/DHL any day.

I dislike the PO raising prices every year, but despite that, they are still faster & cheaper then the above.

Hope you get it, it's a nice coin.

I guess Mat and I are among the minority, but I prefer USPS in most instances! Where I live, they are far cheaper than all other carriers and I've not had any lost packages (knock wood). Most of the postal workers in my small community are very friendly too.

I bought a couple of coins from a forum member who lives in upstate Oregon. He shipped by USPS on April 20th and they turned up at my place on April 25th having covered 4800 miles with a weekend in between. Pretty impressive!

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

The US Postal service is a crap shoot, to be honest. Sometimes they are exceedingly efficient, other times quite frustrating. My mail carrier(s) to my home are excellent. But I send all my coins to my post office box for security. That is where the frustrating part comes in. I often have a package showing as 'delivered to box' that doesn't show up often for nearly a week later. Also, I have signed up for the 'no signature' service, so I dont have to sign for anything other than foreign registered. Alas, it still doesn't work. They make me sign for stuff that has no signature requirement! But, that is just my local office. They are insanely slow, and I despise any visit I make (and as a dealer I have to go each day!).

On the bright side, budget cuts meant that our local sorting facility was closed down, so all our mail goes out to Sacramento to be sorted (and yes, if I mail a letter to my next door neighbor it still has to be trucked 160 miles out, processed and come right back). Sure, adds maybe hours or a day to the shipment, but I had one package delivered to a CT member in Florida. I mailed in on Friday, he picked it up on Monday! What's that? 3,000 miles or so. Not bad. There are always positive stories out there.
