Hi I need to as a few questions before I go to the bank.

    1. Say i bring a 1 dollar bill to the bank; can they give me 2 rolls of pennies?
    2. If so, does that go for all coins?

    3. If I bring penny rolls that add up to 2 dollars, can I cash them in and change for nickels for example?

    1. Generally yes.
    2. Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, (newer) Dollar coins. Halves and older dollars are slightly more difficult to come by.
    3. Generally yes.

    Happy searching! :)

yes you can depending on your bank. some banks only will take rolled coins if you have an accountwith them . i usually go through five or six hunhred dollars of nickels a week taking out the ones i want to keep and returning the rest. on average you get about fourtyto a hundred nickels to keep out of a hundred dollars. and you usualy get one silver wwii nickel per box good luck searching and i also started checking tow or three rolls at a tims .

My bank has a counting machine that you can use for free (they give you full face value) so you don't even have to re-roll the coins. You can just dump them into the hopper. The machine prints out a receipt which you can take to a teller and either take the total in cash or deposit it to your account.

My bank has the free counting machine, but I still like to roll my coins when I'm done. I go through about $20 in cents, and $10 in nickels a week, not much but it keeps my occupied. I think that re-rolling the coins when I'm done is kind of relaxing, almost like meditation. Also if I put them in my rolls, which I mark, I have a decent shot of being able to tell if I'm getting one of my rolls back next time I go in to pick up rolls.

Note, for small amount like a couple of rolls you should have no problem. But if you start trying to get ten rolls or more at a time you will probably find yourself encuring their wrath.

What everyone else has said - one piece of advise - don't call ahead and ask them about coins in their vault :D. Good Luck!

I can't tell you how many rolls of coins I've purchased from the bank but I bought alot. The process is very simple. At my bank, if you have an account, you can purchase up to $100 worth of coinage a day. My bank also has the "Penny Arcade" where you pour your coins in and get a receipt which you then bring to the teller for cash. For well over a year I bought rolls and rolls of pennies, nickles, dimes and quaters. Then I got friendly with the head teller. She let me purchase Kennedy Halfs by the box load $500 worth. Find a bank that will let you do what my bank does and start searching those rolls. If they don't have a "penny Arcade", most supermarkets have one but they charge around 9% per transaction.
