It doesn't look like letters to me. No offense intended, but we get a lot of coins posted here that people think are something they really aren't. When you have a better understanding of the minting process, the first thing you would ask yourself is, "If this were a true Mint error, at what stage in the minting process could this have occurred." If you can't provide a logical answer, then it is most likely damage. Chris
I don't see letters, but I believe you. My guess is still with the above, damage. If they are indeed letters, are they mirror-image, or correct orientation? Mirror means it was struck with something that happened to have raised letters on it. Correct orientation (which IMO is less likely), would be a counter stamping of some sort.
