Pulled my old penny collection out of storage today. My dad gave it to me when I was a kid and I added some pennys I found as a kid in the late 80's. I have a 1955-D penny that's "peeling". Has anyone seen this? Is it normal? Can't find any info online and these pennys are supposed to be 95% copper from what I've read. The color where it's peeled is silver. It's not magnetic. Guess it could be some kind of fake, but who would fake a common penny? Compared it to another 1955D and don't see any difference visually other than the peeling. Attaching pics.
Yeah, you are right. It was a throw in because most people don't keep pure acetone around on a regular basis. Edit: listen to green18!
Looks like a primer coat and then a color coat of toned bronze over that, leaving me to wonder why anyone would... But then I realized that only the whitish stuff is foreign material.
