I'd be interested to know how some of you exhibit your collections. Here is my genealogy of the Julian-Claudian imperial lineage. I like to be able to view my coins and handle them - that is why I have used coin holders to enable me do this. Missing coins are represented by photos of the relevant family member which will be replaced if and when I find a suitable representative coin - which is now becoming expensive as some of these coins are rather rare and in a few cases non existent (to my knowledge). Having placed a maximum price of $200 per coin it keeps me surfing - which is after all, what collecting is all about! I have a few queries re the display. Firstly, the colour scheme for the names; full purple for Emperor, crimson or lesser purple for Senators, gold for generals. As sons of the royal family were either Senators or members of the Patricius, they are shown as crimson. Anybody know of an official colour for the females? Lacking information I have given them pink (although historically boys were designated pink and girls were blue). Secondly, should I change the date of the end of the dynasty to 68bce? Is this date conclusive? Please feel free to comment or make suggestions.
Very nice, osdet! Great idea! It's similar to the method that Ancestry.com uses to display family trees.
That's a very attractive means of display---I LIKE IT!! Mine are still displayed in flips or in an album or two but I plan to do something similar in the future As far as your 'date' question, it's my understanding that the Julio/Claudian dynasty ended with Nero so it seems logical to me that the date/year is of his death.
I only display my 12 Caesars set. The rest are secured and are only fewed by me or in the rare case when someone expresses interest (very rare)
that's very nice way to do it.. but i like to "find" coins i've forgotten i had and so i keep mine in a state of anarchy
That's pretty cool osdet! So is this just for personal display or was this a project for a school or club?
I don't have any sort of display like that! It's not something I would do with physical coins but have thought about using images on a map for my provincials. I like what you did with the colors.
Great displays and what good ideas. I like the idea of the coin holders as the coins are still accessible.
Sorry, the date should read 68ce rather than 68bce. There is some recent speculation that Nero had offspring who may have succeeded him. Whether this is true or not I accept that the dynasty ended in 68ce. I'll change my heading to this. Many thanks for your comments and suggestions.
James, Thanks for the reference. A good way to find who's who although I'd be broke if I were to collect a coin for each family member.
