If you do, or just want to see how other people in other countries share and live our passion for Ancient Coins, or if you just want to see pretty pictures of ancients coins, this may be interesting to you:

    France:

    Spain:

    Germany:

(I hope it is OK with our moderators:))

I do pretty good in german, french and spanish, and am now picking up a few words of italian so I can understand what is going on.

When I went to the NY International Numismatic Convention this past January, I stopped at some tables from Madrid and Barcelona Spain.. Not very pleasant dealers :grumpy: Bad experience.

I am fluent in Castellano (Spanish) by the way

My best language after English is actually Biblical Greek, but I've studied German and French, so I appreciate these. Thanks for posting.

By the way, if you want to see an AMAZING thread on one of these forums, check this out!

I know there is also another forum in Spain (OMNI), and one also in Austria where ancients are discussed. Will try to find the links.

Thank you, Christian, yes that is exactly the Forum I was referring to in Austria.
It sure seems to be quite active.

Thanks also, Cucumber for pointing out the forum you moderate. It is very interesting and I am glad I finally discovered it. (I specially like to read about the coinage from Lyon).

I really enjoy participating in, or just reading the postings in these forums, and I think I even detect what could called be a local, national 'touch'.
However, these differences, if any, are overridden by the commonalities: for example, the pride of members showing their new, prized possessions, or discussions about historical events associated with the coins, and yes, also concerns about fakes.

    Just as we do here.

I encourage anybody who may be interested to peek into these forums:).

Numismatikforum.de has a few very knowledgeable and helpul folks, but, unfortunately, there are way too many Bestimmungshilfe threads: what's this coin, is it a fake, how much?

La moneta looks very interesting; just when I wanted to start spending less time with coining...

From a Spanish-speaking family here (born in the US so English is my primary language, though), so anything coin-related in Spanish I can read with little issue, although I occasionally trip on some of the more technical and unfamiliar terms. Reading in Spanish takes longer for me than English and I can't really write anything more than basic sentences, so these reasons are why I wouldn't be able to participate in Imperio-Numismatico or any other Spanish-language ancient coin forum, unfortunately.

But I just want to say that my knowledge of Latin words and phrases has considerably improved since I've started collecting Roman coins :D (Spanish definitely helps me in understanding some of them).

Like you, I am fairly fluent in Spanish as my father worked in Latin America for many years, and I can almost say I grew up there. Since returning to Europe (many years ago!) I have tried to keep up my Spanish, and following the discussions and participating in the Spanish forums has really helped.

Aparte de las monedas romanas tambien me interesan las monedas de la colonias españolas de America, y también de las republicas sudamericanas. En los foros españoles predominan lógicamente discusiones muy interesantes sobres estas monedas, y por eso me interesa participar en esos foros:).

That is one of the benefits, I think, of visiting the various ancient forums available internationally: that you have exposure to the great wealth of knowledge which is out there in the various countries. NumismatikForum certainly has many knowledgeable members, also the Forum de Numismatique Antique, and Imperio Numismatico.
